My Problem with Food Banks

Let me explain. I don’t have an issue with anyone who works at a Food Bank, or anyone trying to help people. That’s not what I’m saying so please don’t even take it there. What this is about is the systems we have in place to help feed people.
They are not only ineffective, they are irresponsible. And clearly, they are not sustainable. Feeding people who are already stressed out, already struggling, already feeling terrible, food that is simply not healthy, is not ok with me. This demographic of people need healthy food the most. We’ve gotten this one, very very wrong.
So who’s to blame? Who cares. Let’s just fix it.

One of the things we always hear about is how convenient it is to shop the big box stores over and above local farmers. We are striving to change that. We want to make it more convenient for you to purchase your produce from us, a local farm who also purchases from local farmers, small businesses and distributors.
While our subscriptions will remain on a weekly delivery system, and our website will also remain the same, (for now), we will begin to transition into next day delivery by offering a FLASH SALE - 1 day a week.
Starting this week, we are offering a delivery day this WEDNESDAY ONLY, (St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Thorold, Pelham and Welland only). We want to see how long it takes, how many of you order, and how to run our new system from our hub.
Delivery time: 3-7pm.
To start we are offering for sale a mixed meat box, small produce bag, eggs and/or honey. And as a thank you for helping us trial this experience, we are offering FREE DELIVERY for this 1 day only.

Earlier this year I was very fortunate to be a speaker / present my story at the Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Convention in Niagara Falls.
The Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Convention (OFVC) is an annual 2-day gathering of horticultural crop producers involved in the production of fruits and vegetables. The convention is attended by a cross section of the horticultural sector including government, industry, business, consultants, producers, associations, researchers and educators from across Canada and features a great line up of horticultural experts, educational sessions, and trade show exhibitors.
Some really fantastic conversations come about from these types of events - which for me, to be honest, helps me to understand more of what I am up against.
The thinking, the planning and the ideology behind it all. The so called machine.
For me it’s always just comes down to what is right and what is wrong.
And I know, I know. Who’s to say I’m right even.
I just simply appreciate the opportunity to speak my side of the story in and amongst the chaos.

We are very happy to be providing Niagara and area with Comfort Meats, local, grass fed beef. We hope that we can meet your expectations so far as pricing goes, grocery meat just simply does not compare.
And as those grocery store prices continue to rise, local, small scale farmers will be able to operate/compete on a more equal playing field.
Simply put: We are looking to convert the conventional system, to a smaller, more local one, one customer at a time.
